    Chinese store selling iPhone 6 offers to make your pant pockets bigger

    When the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were launched last month, the smartphones were put through a pocketability test to see how comfortable carrying the two smartphones were in skinny jeans and otherwise. While the iPhone 6 is pretty much your average sized smartphone with its 4.7-inch display, the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus belongs more to the phablet category and isn’t as easily pocketable.

    China’s solution: offer an alternation service in which you can get your pants tailored to have bigger pockets that more easily fit the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. That’s exactly what the Unicom store in China pictured in the tweet below has done, even if it’s more so for a publicity stunt that, judging by this post and other coverage of the humorous idea, is working.

    China Unicom is the world’s third largest carrier and official Apple partner, trailing behind China Telecom and China Mobile. I am curious if proof of purchase would be required for an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus in order to get your pant pockets modified, or if you could simply walk in and take advantage of this awesome deal to get your skinny jeans customized. I’m mostly kidding. On a more serious note, tech pundit John Gruber of Daring Fireball gave an interesting opinion about pocketability for the iPhone 6 Plus last month:

    “The iPhone 6 Plus, however, makes itself felt in your pants pocket. It is pocketable, at least for me, and I wouldn’t call it uncomfortable. But when I switched back and forth between different phones this week, I’d never forget when the iPhone 6 Plus was in my pocket. (I would sometimes forget whether I had my 5S or the regular 6 in my pocket.) For security purposes I don’t think Apple Stores (or carrier stores) let people try putting display models in their pockets, but in the case of the iPhone 6 Plus, maybe they should. It’s going to be an issue for some.”
